
A 2024 study published in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology reports that India has the world's second largest adult diabetes population at 90 million, following China with 148 million and ahead of the US with 39 million. The International Diabetes Federation's Diabetes Atlas analyzed data from 215 countries, projecting global diabetes cases to rise from 589 million in 2024 to 853 million by 2050. Low and middle-income countries, including India and Pakistan, are expected to see most of this increase, with Pakistan potentially surpassing the US by 2050.
