
A fire destroyed approximately 10 shops in the old market area of Mainaguri, Jalpaiguri, on Friday morning. Firefighters, police, and residents collaborated to extinguish the blaze, with two fire engines deployed. Officials suspect an electrical short circuit as the cause. Gas cylinders were safely removed from a sweet shop to prevent explosions. While no casualties were reported, shop owners faced financial losses. Municipal vice-chairman Jhulan Goswami noted obstructions from goods on access routes and pledged support for affected traders.
