Over 6.9 million pilgrims have visited the Vaishno Devi shrine this year, marking a significant rebound after a landslide tragedy on August 26th that claimed 35 lives and temporarily suspended the pilgrimage. April saw the highest footfall with over 980,000 visitors, followed by March. Following the incident, a committee was formed to investigate causes and recommend preventative measures. Pilgrim numbers recovered steadily, with over 470,000 visiting in December, and authorities anticipate further increases for the New Year.
