On March 2, a leak of oleum (fuming sulphuric acid) gas occurred at Bhageria Chemicals Company in Palghar district's Boisar MIDC industrial area, prompting evacuation of over 2,600 people, including 1,600 students. The leak created a dense white cloud affecting a 3-5 km radius, causing minor eye irritation in a few individuals. Emergency teams, including NDRF and BARC, responded promptly to contain the leak. Authorities advised residents to avoid the area, follow safety protocols, and remain calm while investigations continue.
