AIIMS Bhubaneswar successfully performed its first liver transplant on a 37-year-old patient from Puri district on December 20. The recipient's younger brother voluntarily donated a portion of his liver. The surgery, led by Dr. Brahmadatta Pattanaik and involving over 50 members, took 14 hours. The liver transplant program at AIIMS Bhubaneswar became operational in February 2025, with a dedicated 10-bed transplant ICU running since November 2025.
