Gauhati Medical College Hospital in Guwahati has reported a significant rise in respiratory cases, including cough and fever, attributed to increased dust pollution caused by prolonged lack of rainfall. Dr. MP Das noted that while seasonal respiratory infections are common, this year’s severity is linked to dust particles remaining airborne. Viral infections are generally self-limiting, but bacterial infections require medical treatment. Children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals are particularly vulnerable, and precautions are advised until rainfall reduces dust levels.
