
The traditional Jallikattu bull-taming sport commenced in Avaniyapuram, Madurai, as part of Tamil Nadu's Pongal 2026 harvest festival. Approximately 1,100 bulls and 550 bull tamers are participating in the three-day event, with Palamedu and Alanganallur hosting subsequent rounds. Strict medical checks for bulls and tamers, along with enhanced security involving over 2,000 police personnel, have been implemented following Supreme Court guidelines.
