NHRC Seeks Reports from Five States on Rising Missing Persons and Trafficking Cases

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police of Bihar, Odisha, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan over a rising number of missing persons, particularly children. Citing National Crime Records Bureau data, the NHRC highlighted high cases of human trafficking involving minors in these states. The Commission has requested detailed reports within two weeks on measures taken to address the issue and the latest statistics, noting concerns over poor tracing rates despite state efforts.
