Ludhiana Addresses Rising Stray Dog Incidents with Expanded Sterilisation and Vaccination Efforts

Ludhiana faces a rising stray dog issue, with 13,728 bite cases reported in 2025, including several fatal attacks on children and livestock. The Municipal Corporation is actively conducting sterilisation and vaccination drives under the Animal Birth Control and Anti-Rabies Vaccination programmes, having sterilised around 40,000 dogs since 2017. Efforts include expanding kennel capacity, constructing a dog shelter in Nangal Shama, and resuming services after a five-month pause, though some facilities require redevelopment. Residents urge stronger measures to address the escalating problem.
