A recent analysis in The Lancet highlights intimate partner violence (IPV) as a significant public health crisis in India, impacting women's health beyond physical injuries. Data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023 indicates IPV is linked to increased risks of depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, and cardiovascular issues, often worsening existing conditions. The study suggests IPV poses a greater health risk for reproductive-age women in South Asia than obesity or substance use, yet women's health research in India often overlooks mental health and its catalysts, leading the health system to address IPV only at its severe endpoints.
