Researchers have identified a new dragonfly species in Kerala, named Lyriothemis keralensis, highlighting the region's rich biodiversity. Found near Kothamangalam in Ernakulam district, it inhabits shaded pools and canals within pineapple and rubber plantations. The species, visible during the Southwest monsoon, was previously misidentified as Lyriothemis acigastra. The study, involving multiple institutions, was published in the International Journal of Odonatology and details the species' distinct sexual dimorphism and seasonal lifecycle.
