Merchant families established businesses and religious institutions, shaping the area's social fabric. Many mid-20th-century houses reflect Art Deco and early Indian modernism, blending international design with local use. One 1951 house built by a Jain bullion merchant family remains intact and is occupied by four brothers living in a rare joint household arrangement.
