Starting April 1, Uttar Pradesh will require egg producers to stamp each egg with the date of laying and expiry date to enhance consumer awareness and public health. Eggs stored at ambient temperatures (around 30°C) should be consumed within two weeks, while refrigerated eggs (2-8°C) remain safe for up to five weeks. The move follows concerns over rule adherence and limited cold storage facilities in the state, with producers using machines to apply the stamps at minimal cost.
