
A community workshop on Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a rare neuromuscular disorder causing progressive muscle weakness, was held in Thiruvananthapuram. Health Minister Veena George attended the event, which brought together medical experts, patient advocacy groups, and affected families. The program, currently supporting 110 beneficiaries, aims to extend medicine provision up to 18 years. Experts highlighted the condition's impact on motor neurons and potential fatal complications if untreated, while noting preserved cognitive abilities in affected children.
