The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) plans to commence biomining of approximately 80,000 cubic meters of legacy waste at the Athipet dumpyard in Ambattur. This project, estimated at 7.1 crore and approved under Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, aims to clear waste accumulated over nearly 40 years. The work, expected to take a year, will be undertaken by Zigma Global Environ Solutions Private Limited. Previous biomining efforts at the site faced delays due to site conditions and temporary redirection of fresh waste.
