Gig and platform workers, represented by the Gig and Platform Service Workers Union (GIPSWU), are holding a nationwide strike on December 31, demanding better pay, improved working conditions, and an end to rapid delivery mandates. The union submitted a charter of 15 demands to Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, including a minimum per-kilometer rate of Rs 20, a guaranteed monthly earning of Rs 40,000, and maternity protection for women. They cite systemic exclusion from labor entitlements and safety risks, particularly for women, as key concerns.
