Kerala Government Begins Resettlement of Wayanad Landslide Survivors in New Township

On July 30, 2024, a massive landslide devastated parts of Wayanad district in Kerala, destroying homes and infrastructure and causing multiple fatalities. Survivors, many left homeless and grieving, requested to be resettled together. Responding to this, the Kerala government developed a Model Township on 130 acres at Elton Estates near Kalpetta, featuring houses and essential facilities. The first 178 families will begin moving into the new settlement from March 1, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan overseeing the handover.
