A study by researchers from Flinders University and Flinders Medical Centre found that having both adenomas and serrated polyps in the colon increases the risk of bowel cancer up to fivefold compared to having only one type. Reviewing over 8,400 colonoscopy records, the study highlights that nearly half of patients with serrated polyps also had adenomas, indicating a common high-risk combination. The findings, published in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, stress the importance of early detection and regular colonoscopy monitoring for colorectal cancer prevention.
