Following the escape of four jackals from the National Zoological Park in Delhi in November 2025, a jackal reportedly entered the Himalayan black bear enclosure and died during an attempted capture. The zoo workers' union alleged the jackal was burned alive, a claim denied by zoo officials. An inquiry was launched after missing CCTV footage from December 5 to 16 was reported due to technical failures. Subsequently, a ranger involved in the operation was removed from range charge and reassigned pending investigation.
