A 45-year-old trekker from Uttar Pradesh, Suraj Kumar Tiwari, died on the Goechala trekking route in Sikkim after falling ill near Kokchurong camp. Despite receiving first aid and being carried towards Yuksom, he passed away near Phedang campsite. This marks the third death on the Goechala route in 2025, with previous incidents attributed to acute mountain sickness. Tourism stakeholders are calling for improved medical and rescue facilities.
