West Bengal's forest department, in collaboration with wildlife NGOs, has commenced its three-month winter migratory bird census in West Burdwan district. The census, running from December 1 to February 28, 2026, has seen a positive start with early sightings of species like Ruddy Shelduck and Siberian Rubythroat. Experts anticipate record numbers of migratory birds this year due to favorable winter conditions and habitat improvements, with further influx expected in January.
