Nearly 400 homebuyers protested at Azad Maidan in Mumbai after investing in stalled HDIL projects in Mulund and Nahur between 2009-2010. Many are now senior citizens who have waited nearly 17 years for possession, facing financial strain from paying EMIs and rent. Some protestors expressed severe mental stress and the loss of dreams, with a few elderly buyers reportedly dying while waiting for their homes. They allege being cheated by the developer, HDIL, which has since faced financial difficulties.
