Calicut University Approves Land for Rs 500-Crore International Stadium Project

The Calicut University Syndicate has approved allotting 35 acres of land at Thenhipalam, near the Malappuram-Kozhikode border, for a Rs 500-crore FIFA-standard international stadium. The stadium, with a 50,000 seating capacity, will be part of a larger sports complex including a swimming pool, fitness centre, and accommodation. An initial Rs 125 crore has been sanctioned for phase one. The project aims to boost sports development, especially football, and support Kerala's sports economy while ownership remains with the university.
