The police custody of Satadru Dutta, the chief organiser of the recent Lionel Messi event in Kolkata, has been extended until January 9 by a West Bengal court. Prosecutors allege Dutta engaged in corruption amounting to ₹23 crore, including finalising food and beverage contracts without government approval and receiving more cash than the contract value. The court rejected his bail plea, citing Dutta's influence and the need for further investigation into financial transactions and pre-planned arrangements. The event itself was marred by disorder, with questions raised about Messi leaving the field early.
