Koneru Humpy secured a bronze medal at the FIDE World Rapid Championships after a tie-breaker rule placed her third despite tying for the top score with 8.5 points. China's Zhu Jiner and Russia's Aleksandra Goryachkina also finished with 8.5 points. Goryachkina ultimately won the title by defeating Zhu in the tie-breaker. Humpy's compatriot B Savitha Shri drew her final round game against Humpy, a result that prevented Humpy from achieving a historic third world rapid title.
