
The 6th Khelo India Winter Games commenced in Gulmarg, Kashmir, from February 23 to 26, featuring around 900 to 1,000 athletes from 25 to 30 states and Union Territories competing in disciplines like alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, ski mountaineering, and snowboarding. The event was inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who highlighted the games' role in promoting national unity and winter sports. Abdullah emphasized the need for artificial snow infrastructure due to climate change and unpredictable weather, urging flexible scheduling and investment to sustain winter sports and tourism in Gulmarg. Increased female participation and the games' evolution into a national festival were also noted.
