At the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix, McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both failed to start due to separate electrical issues with their cars' power units. Norris, who qualified sixth, remained in the garage after mechanics could not resolve the problem, while Piastri, qualified fifth, was pushed back to the garage shortly before the formation lap. This marked McLaren's first double race withdrawal since 2005. The team has launched a joint investigation with engine supplier Mercedes AMG HPP to identify the causes and aims to resolve the issues ahead of the next race in Japan.
