Pune is preparing to host India's first Grand Tour cycling event in January 2026, a multi-stage race covering approximately 437 km across nine tehsils of the district. The event has accelerated infrastructure upgrades, including road resurfacing, camber, gradient, and drainage improvements, to meet Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) standards. Over 32 countries are expected to participate, with around 250 elite cyclists competing. This initiative has fostered unprecedented coordination among civic and state agencies, transforming routine road works into a deadline-driven overhaul.
