Venus Williams was eliminated in the first round of the Indian Wells tournament, losing in three sets to French qualifier Diane Parry. The 45-year-old American, competing on a wild card, rallied in the second set but Parry dominated the decider. Williams, who has struggled to win matches this year, expressed appreciation for the home crowd but did not comment on her sister Serena's potential return. Parry will face Madison Keys in the next round.
