Australia's captain Pat Cummins will miss the first two to three matches of the 2026 T20 World Cup due to a lumbar bone stress injury sustained before the 2025-26 Ashes series. Chief selector George Bailey confirmed Cummins is expected to return later in the tournament after rehabilitation. Cummins will also miss the preceding T20I series against Pakistan. Other players like Josh Hazlewood and Tim David are also rested or recovering, allowing fringe players to participate in early matches.
