
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a high-level meeting at the Sports Authority of India to review preparations for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, scheduled from September 19 to October 4. Over 700 Indian athletes are expected to compete in more than 40 sports. A 15-member committee, including officials like PT Usha and Sahdev Yadav, has held four meetings since December 2025 to coordinate training, logistics, and athlete welfare. The government emphasized comprehensive support to ensure athletes can focus on performance and aim to increase India's medal tally.
