Following a deadly stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL 2025 celebrations that caused 11 deaths, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has remained closed for competitive matches. To address safety concerns and secure hosting rights for IPL 2026, RCB has proposed installing 300-350 AI-enabled surveillance cameras, offering to cover the estimated Rs 4.5 crore cost. The system aims to enhance real-time crowd monitoring, queue management, and unauthorized access detection. Final clearance depends on the Karnataka State Cricket Association implementing the Michael D'Cunha Commission's safety recommendations.
