The Bombay High Court has stayed the selection of Maharashtra's 19-member ice hockey team for the Khelo India Winter Games 2026, citing concerns over the trials being held on roller skates instead of ice skates. The court criticized the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs for ignoring requests to conduct tryouts at the state's only ice hockey facility in Pune. It noted that most selected players lacked ice hockey experience, while several national-level players were excluded. The decision followed a petition by five players challenging the selection process.
