Study Finds Doubling of Indian Women's Participation in Cricket Since 2020

A BBC and Collective Newsroom study reveals that women's participation in cricket across 14 Indian states has doubled since 2020, rising from 5% to 10%, with even higher growth among women aged 15 to 24. Cricket has surpassed kabaddi as the most played sport among women surveyed, with Uttar Pradesh showing a tenfold increase. The gender gap in cricket participation has narrowed, and 26% of young women now consider sports as a career, reflecting growing interest alongside recent successes of the Indian women's cricket team.
