Aarav Dengla Becomes India's 93rd Chess Grandmaster at Age 17

Seventeen-year-old Aarav Dengla from Mumbai has become India's 93rd chess Grandmaster after achieving his final GM norm and surpassing the 2500 rating threshold. Dengla secured his norms through tournaments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, joining the ranks alongside other notable Indian GMs. He is the second Indian to earn the title in 2026 and the third GM from Mumbai. India's Grandmaster list now includes 93 players, reflecting significant growth since Viswanathan Anand's pioneering achievement.
