
Premadhar Sarmah, a veteran sports journalist, organiser, and commentator from Assam, passed away at 86 after a prolonged illness. Beginning his career in 1964 with Central Railway, he became the first sports reporter for Dainik Asam in 1965 and retired as deputy editor in 2004. Over five decades, Sarmah contributed as a player, referee, and journalist, covering major events like the 1982 Asian Games and representing India at international forums including the 1992 Earth Summit and 2002 Winter Olympics. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and two sons.
