Indian Railways is upgrading its Passenger Reservation System to improve the ticket booking experience, addressing long-standing issues like slow response times, system crashes, and automated software misuse. The new system, costing around 1,000 crore, aims to increase booking capacity from 25,000 to 125,000 tickets per minute, reducing delays especially during peak and Tatkal hours. This upgrade is currently being tested and expected to launch between April and June, promising smoother and faster bookings for millions of passengers.
