Meta has acquired Chinese AI firm Manus for $2 billion, with CEO Xiao Hong, also known as "Red Xiao," emerging as a key figure. Founded in 2015, Manus developed what it calls the "world's first general AI agent," capable of complex tasks like code deployment and stock analysis. The acquisition, which saw Xiao Hong reject a prior offer from Bytedance, integrates Manus's multi-model architecture with Meta's infrastructure, positioning the tech giant to compete beyond chatbots amidst US-China tech tensions.
