IIT Madras and Herbalife Launch India's First Centre of Excellence on Plant Cell Fermentation
On June 22, 2026, IIT Madras and Herbalife International India Pvt. Ltd. inaugurated India's first Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Plant Cell Fermentation Technology at IIT Madras Research Park, Chennai. The CoE aims to advance sustainable biomanufacturing by enabling scalable production of herbal biomass, enriched extracts, and high-value phytochemicals. Equipped with advanced bioreactors and analytical platforms, it seeks to bridge laboratory research and industrial applications, foster innovation, and build skilled manpower, supporting national initiatives like BioE3 and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
