India's Semiconductor Mission 2.0, announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, will shift focus from manufacturing to building a robust design ecosystem to support deep tech startups. The initiative aims to develop indigenous semiconductor design, equipment manufacturing, and materials ecosystems, addressing a projected talent gap of 20 lakh engineers. Following the establishment of 10 manufacturing plants under Semicon 1.0, the new phase prioritizes innovation, talent expansion across 500 universities, and creating a foundation for a 20-year industry growth plan.
