Authorities in India, including the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau and Mumbai Police, are warning of a new "greeting scam" targeting users ahead of New Year 2026. Fraudsters are sending malicious links via WhatsApp, Telegram, and SMS, disguised as festive greetings or gifts. Clicking these links can prompt the download of an APK file, installing spyware that steals personal data, banking OTPs, and grants remote access to phones. Scammers exploit this to conduct unauthorized financial transactions.
