Palau is deploying the Pacific's first Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) to establish a secure nationwide 4G and 5G mobile network. Supported by a $20 million investment from the Quad partnership—comprising the US, Australia, India, and Japan—three US companies have been selected to provide technology. The project aims to enhance network resilience, diversify suppliers, and promote trusted digital infrastructure, with full operation expected by early 2027. This initiative also seeks to serve as a model for regional connectivity improvements.
