India De-licenses Lower 6 GHz Spectrum for Licence-Free Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 Use

India's Department of Telecommunications has de-licensed 500 MHz of the lower 6 GHz spectrum (5925-6425 MHz) for licence-free use by low-power indoor and very low-power outdoor wireless devices, enabling Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 services. This move supports advanced technologies like gaming consoles and AR/VR devices, aligning India with over 90 countries allowing such use. However, telecom operators oppose this, advocating for auctioning the entire 6 GHz band to support future 5G and 6G mobile services, while tech companies favor broader de-licensing.
