The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed a new 'International M2M SIM Service Authorisation' framework to regulate the sale of foreign SIM and eSIM cards for export-bound M2M and IoT devices. This light-touch authorization, with minimal fees and a 10-year validity, aims to simplify processes for Indian manufacturers and unlock export potential. The framework suggests these foreign SIMs would remain non-functional in India except for limited testing periods, ensuring domestic networks are not accessed.
