
China will ban hidden or powered car door handles on new vehicles from January 1, 2027, requiring mechanical release handles both inside and outside to enhance safety. This decision follows fatal accidents involving Xiaomi electric vehicles where power failures reportedly prevented door opening during emergencies. Approved models have until 2029 to comply. The regulation aims to improve emergency access and reduce risks associated with flush handles, which, while aerodynamic, may malfunction after crashes or battery loss.
