From March 1, 2026, Indian messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Snapchat, and others must implement SIM binding, requiring user accounts to stay linked to the original KYC-verified SIM physically present in the primary device. This rule, mandated by the Department of Telecommunications under updated Telecom Cyber Security Rules, aims to curb cyber fraud by preventing anonymous or unverified use. The change affects multi-device access, web and desktop logins, which will require frequent re-authentication, and may disrupt users who switch SIMs or use devices without SIM support.
