Elon Musk's social media platform X has agreed to modify its blue checkmark verification system in the European Union following a 120 million euro fine imposed in December for breaching the EU's Digital Services Act. The EU charged that X's verification mark, previously indicating verified public figures, was misleading after being changed to signify paid subscriptions. X submitted proposed remedies, which the European Commission is currently assessing. X has appealed the fine but is expected to comply with payment and regulatory requirements.
