State-owned BSNL has launched Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) services nationwide, enabling customers to make and receive calls and messages over Wi-Fi networks. This IMS-based service aims to improve connectivity in areas with weak mobile signals, such as homes and remote locations, and reduce network congestion. Unlike private operators who launched similar services earlier, BSNL positions VoWiFi as a coverage solution. The service is free, uses existing mobile numbers without third-party apps, and requires enabling Wi-Fi Calling in smartphone settings.
