OpenAI Developing ChatGPT-Powered Wireless Earbuds to Compete with Apple AirPods

OpenAI is reportedly developing its first consumer hardware product, codenamed "Sweetpea," a pair of AI-powered wireless earbuds designed to compete with Apple AirPods. The earbuds, featuring a unique egg-shaped design and powered by a custom Samsung Exynos 2nm chip, aim to integrate ChatGPT for real-time conversational AI and voice commands. Developed in collaboration with former Apple designer Jony Ive and manufactured by Foxconn, the device is expected to launch around September 2026 with projected volumes of 40-50 million units. Additional AI hardware products, including a pen and home device, are also reportedly in development.
