Elon Musk's Neuralink is developing a brain implant called Blindsight, aiming to restore vision for the blind, potentially by 2026. The US FDA granted the project "breakthrough device" status, expediting its development. Musk claims the implant has shown success in monkeys and could eventually exceed normal human vision, even for those blind from birth or without optic nerves, provided the visual cortex is intact. Neuralink is preparing for initial human trials and plans high-volume production of its brain-computer interface devices.
